I LOVE patterns!
I love word patterns.
The green door game was fun to play at summer camp with my scouts two years ago! Rhyming games and puns are fun! I struggle with many word pattern games, but I enjoy getting better by playing them.
I love numerical patterns.
Adding digits of numbers until they are a single digit is still a calming activity for me. I did not know when I was younger that I was determining whether numbers were divisible by 9. If you do not know this trick, here is a quick explanation. Take a number, any number. Add all the digits. Repeat adding the digits until you have a number 0-9. If the number left is nine, the original number is also divisible by nine. However, my personal twist is to delete groups of numbers that sum to nine, until a number 0-9 is left. This also shows divisibility by three. Other tricks that can be used for other numbers. Some are easier to remember than others.
Also, my birthday is a numerical pattern! I discovered the pattern while I was student teaching. The class was working on exponents and there it suddenly appeared. Patterns are my favorite part about mathematics. For me, maths are about looking for patterns and modeling the patterns that hold true.
I love visual patterns.
Patterns can be pleasing to the eye. Or irritating when the pattern is not quite there or off slightly. Jigsaw puzzles are completed by finding the color, texture and other visual patterns. Finding the smaller patterns leads to the completion of the bigger picture.

Patterns are calming.
When I get upset, it calms me to organize. I does not matter what. Processing patterns and sorting objects is relaxing. Although, when there is too much to sort, it can be overwhelming. Spontaneous projects normally require some reorganization.
This website is an attempt to create patterns from the photos I have taken over the years. Otherwise, a modern scrapbook.
